Example data — not real. The field reports, avalanches, weak layers and snowpits here are made up to show this site in a busy winter week; the forecast is a real one from last season, shown with today's dates and marked as an example. Station readings are live. Everything is already wired to your real data: Turn on live data
Demo site built from the COAC design — not yet the official COAC website. Official forecasts at coavalanche.org.

Observations

Submit an observation

Forecasters read every report. Location, aspect and elevation matter as much as what you saw.

Emergency? Call 911.

This form is not monitored in real time. For an accident, call 911 first, then report it to COAC.

What makes a great report
01

Be specific about location.

Drop the pin where you saw it. Aspect and elevation matter as much as the place name.

02

Report the quiet days.

"No signs of instability" is useful data too.

03

Add a photo.

A crown or crack photo tells forecasters a lot.

Your observation

Short form for a quick report; long form adds avalanche details, avalanche problems and weather.

Goes to the Central Oregon Avalanche Center forecasters. Once you confirm by email it appears on this site right away, marked unverified and not yet reviewed. Not for emergencies — call 911.

Demo site: this form works up to its last step, but nothing is sent, stored or charged until the center switches the site on.
